TuToring and STUDENT SUPPORT
About ME
Andrew Strong
I was raised in the Bay Area (Saratoga) and attended high school at Menlo School in Atherton, CA. I graduated cum laude from Whitman College in Walla Walla, WA where I worked as a Resident Advisor and studied Environmental Studies and Studio Art. As a result, I have a distinctly interdisciplinary academic background, having studied creative, social science, and physical sciences courses. I also completed a Master’s degree in Design and Urban Ecologies at Parsons School of Design in New York City.
I have a background in outdoor education and have worked with students on and off in leadership and support capacities since 2010. This has included backpacking trips, cultural immersion trips in Northern India and Guatemala, and most recently a 2-week camping trip for high school students in Alaska. I’ve also served as a substitute teacher at Menlo School. I’m the oldest of four siblings and mentoring my own sister and brothers growing up played a huge role in developing my love for helping others learn and succeed.
I’m passionate about empowering students with the skills they need to succeed at their goals!
TUTORING APPROACH
I don’t believe that there is just one strategy that works for all students. One-on-one tutoring affords the opportunity for me to tailor strategies to individual student needs. In our time together I bring patience, consistency, and enthusiasm in order to help students build confidence, creativity, diligence, and habits that bring them success in their academic endeavors and other projects that they want to pursue.
I work with students to ensure that they are developing the skills and content knowledge to tackle problems on their own through clear feedback, guidance, prompting questions, and conversations.
